Emilio Gravagno, double bass, is a member of The Philadelphia Orchestra. Born in Chicago, he began studying the double bass upon entering high school. After three years at DePaul University, he auditioned for the Curtis Institute of Music, where he was accepted and studied with Roger Scott. Prior to joining The Philadelphia Orchestra in 1967, Mr. Gravagno was a member of the New Orleans Symphony for two years, and the Baltimore Symphony for five years. He is an active chamber musician and teacher, and has served on several Orchestra liaison committees.
